Most recently malicious files and links have been sent in mass mailings that are imitating news sources like CNN. These spam messages try and draw in the readers attention by focusing around current events or tragedies happening in the world. However, there are many various ways that everyone can protect themselves from these malicious files and links.
First of all, you need to obtain a great spam filter. Most of the spam mail will automatically be sent to the spam folder. If any of the spam mail reaches your inbox promptly report it as spam. Also, always be sure to check the email addresses before clicking on any links or attachments, especially in banking emails or other companies that require your financial information. If the email address doesn’t match their institutions name or has a foreign domain, it’s most likely spam.
Furthermore, one of the best ways to protect yourself from spam is to trust your instincts and use common sense. If you get an email from a company requiring more information before they can send you your purchase, and you didn’t by anything, report it. Also, if you receive strange emails from family or friends that is out of character, be cafeful clicking it because it their accounts could have been hacked.
